Politics in Demographically Hard Times: family policies in East Asia and Southern Europe

This lecture compares the politics of family policies in four extremely low fertility countries—Italy, Japan, Korea and Spain. This unusual quartet of countries provides heuristically useful pairings of similarities and differences, which enable us to explore how previously under-studied factors shape policy trajectories.
