This event explores how thousands of academics from Syria, Turkey, China/Asia and Egypt are today deserting their homeland in search of intellectual refuge in Western universities while attacks against academic freedoms are intensified in Europe and the UK.
Lori Allen is Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at SOAS.
Ahmed Ezzat is a PhD candidate at Cambridge and a human rights lawyer.
Esra Özyürek is Chair for Contemporary Turkish Studies in the European Institute at LSE.
Seçkin Sertdemir Özdemir is Fellow in Contemporary Turkish Studies in the European Institute at LSE.
Hyun Bang Shin is Director of the Saw Swee Hock South Asia Centre and Professor of Geography and Urban Studies at LSE.
