Global Perspectives on Europe: A new Jean Monnet Chair project at the European Institute

We are delighted to announce the launch of "Global Perspectives on Europe" (GLOPE), a Jean Monnet Chair project led by Dr Mareike Kleine at the European Institute and co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme.

The European Union is a key global actor, yet EU studies often remain narrow in scope — Eurocentric, complex, and inaccessible to audiences outside Europe. GLOPE aims to address this disconnect by placing Europe in its global context, in line with the European Institute's mission to go "Beyond Eurocentrism".

Under the leadership of Dr Mareike Kleine, from September 2025 to 2028, we will seek to make EU studies at the European Institute more inclusive and outward-looking, broadening their appeal to international students, scholars, and practitioners, notably by embedding a global perspective into our teaching, research, and outreach — especially for audiences beyond Europe.
