This lecture focuses on the Israeli economy, a remarkable development success story, as a counter example to the current anti-globalisation arguments. Professor Razin gives an economic-history perspective of the long struggle with inflation and of Israel’s immigration story. His upcoming book, to be published by MIT Press in early 2018, covers the early acceleration to three-digit levels, the inflation stabilization programme, as well as Israel’s resistance to the deflation-depression forces that the 2008 crisis created.
Assaf Razin is Professor Emeritus at the Tel Aviv University. He was Friedman Professor of International Economics at Cornell University from 2001 to 2016. He is Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He has written 19 books and monographs.
