Research and Impact Engagements on Sustainable Industrialisation in Africa

Funder: African Climate Foundation

  • This project examines how emerging trade and climate policies are shaping pathways to sustainable industrialisation and economic transformation in Africa. Through a series of evidence-based policy briefs and engagement activities, it explores issues such as trade decarbonisation, carbon border adjustment measures, maritime and aviation emissions policies, critical minerals and developments in the global trading system. By providing timely, accessible and Africa-focused analysis, the project aims to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and support African stakeholders in responding to evolving trade and climate challenges.

African Case Studies on Sustainable Industrial Policymaking

Funder: Open Society Foundations

  • This project examines how sustainable industrial policies are designed, implemented and translated into development outcomes across Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco and Senegal. Through comparative case studies, it identifies practical lessons for effective policymaking, exploring how industrial development can drive economic transformation while promoting inclusion and gender equity. The findings will provide evidence to support stronger and more effective industrial policy across Africa.

Assessing the Economic and Climate Sustainability Implications of Industrial Policy Interventions in Africa

Funder: LSE Impact Fund

  • Building on previous research funded by the African Climate Foundation, this project supports the dissemination and policy engagement activities associated with ATPP’s research on trade, climate and sustainable industrialisation. Through strategic workshops, policy dialogues and public events delivered with African and international partners, it aims to communicate evidence-based recommendations on issues including trade decarbonisation, carbon border adjustment measures, maritime transport and critical minerals, helping African policymakers engage more effectively with emerging global trade and climate challenges.

Retrospective and Prospective Growth: A New Assessment of Africa's Growth Dynamics

Funder: Africa Finance Corporation

  • This project develops a new assessment of Africa's growth dynamics by combining analysis of historical growth patterns with forward-looking scenario modelling. It examines the structural drivers of economic growth, including productivity, structural transformation, competitiveness, diversification and regional integration, and explores how factors such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), technological change and climate transitions may shape Africa's future development. The project aims to generate evidence to support long-term policy and investment decision-making across the continent.
