FLIA 10 Year Anniversary
Last week, FLIA marked its 10 Year Anniversary, celebrating a decade of research, partnership, and impact.
The evening brought together over 100 guests to reflect on the Institute’s achievements over the past ten years and the role Africa must play in shaping the future of research, policy, and global academia.
FLIA’s mission is not only to study Africa, but to centre African perspectives in teaching, research, and policy engagement, in order to reshape how global challenges are understood, and place Africa at the heart of LSE.
The evening highlighted FLIA’s commitment to bridging academic research and real-world impact. Our Programme for African Leadership, which has an alumni network of more than 1,000 graduates, continues to build a growing community of leaders contributing to change across Africa.
We also honoured the memory of Professor Tim Allen, whose leadership, mentorship, and intellectual vision helped shape the Institute’s interdisciplinary approach and lasting impact.
While this anniversary marks ten years of achievement, it is also the beginning of our next chapter, and we recently published the FLIA Research Strategy 2026–2029, we look ahead to continuing LSE’s long-term commitment to place Africa at the heart of understandings and debates on global issues.
