Early Career Fellowships for PhD students

PhD students nearing the end of their degrees may want to consider applying for an early career fellowship. Such postdoctoral fellowship schemes are often offered on a yearly basis by UK granting organisations such as the Leverhulme Trust or The British Academy through a competitive application process. If their research projects are related to Africa, the Institute can help researchers apply for funding.

FLIA events

The FLIA runs a public event programme throughout the year, drawing international audiences on campus and over live stream. We are always looking for new ideas, guest speakers and collaborations across LSE departments to provide engaging events for the widest possible audience.

If you have an idea for an event, or you think you could contribute to an upcoming panel or discussion, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss this with you.

Communications programme

The FLIA runs a range of communications initiatives to engage the public and specialist audiences with its work.

The Africa at LSE blog is a useful way for PhD students to share their research, connect with a wider audience and showcase the extent of their scholarly interests. Please contact the editor for more information and view the writing guidelines.

The Institute also creates specialist podcasts based on its research ouput, to which PhD students are encouraged to contribute expertise if their work aligns with ongoing projects. Recent podcasts have explored the decolonisation of knowledge production, the localisation agenda in service delivery and the roles played by non-state public authorities in people's everyday lives.
