About me

As well as being a visiting professor at the LSE, I am a professor of history of mathematics at the Open University, and a Chair of the International Commision on the History of Mathematics. My current research is on the American mathematician George D. Birkhoff and his contribution to the development of dynamical systems theory. I also work on the history of British mathematics, particularly the period 1860-1940, and I have an ongoing project on the historical representation of women in mathematics.

I teach MA318 History of Mathematics in Finance and Economics for undergraduates.
