Yonsei University

The course list for each term is not finalized until two months before each term begins so students should refer to past course lists for reference. Due to the nature of class, some courses offered from each faculties are not available for enrolment to exchange/visiting students.

Course load is 9 to approximately 18 credits. Once a student has uploaded their proof of health insurance on the Yonsei portal, they will be officially registered in the system as full-time exchange students. The course registration guide is expected to be distributed via email in late July (subject to change), and the student ID number (login credential) to access the course registration system will be announced by early August.

Course Enrolment is conducted through the Yonsei Portal. All students must complete course enrolment individually within the designated period.

The GO LSE team is not legally permitted to give you advice on obtaining a visa to enter South Korea. You will be responsible for making your own arrangements and we recommend starting the process at the earliest opportunity.

International students must submit the following documents to a local Korean Embassy or Consulate. Additional documents may be required depending on your place of residence.

1. Certificate of Admission (to be sent by Yonsei)
2. Yonsei Business Registration Certificate (to be sent by Yonsei)
3. Passport
4. Visa application form
5. Bank statement
6. Other documents as indicated by the local consulate

Students with foreign nationalities must apply for a D-2-6 visa (exchange student visa) to study in Korea. Studying in Korea with different types of visas (ex. tourist visa like B-1, B-2) other than D-2(Student) is strictly prohibited by the Korean Immigration Office. It is strictly the student’s responsibility to enter Korea with a D-2(Student) visa, and Yonsei does not hold any responsibility for problems that may arise from students entering Korea with tourist visas.

LSE strongly advises that you do not book non-refundable flights or make binding accommodation arrangements until you have obtained your visa.

Students interested in on-campus housing are encouraged to submit a separate online housing application as soon as it opens. The provision of on-campus housing is not guaranteed due to limited spaces and rooms will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. As per the South Korean government policy, all international students will be automatically enrolled in the Korea National Health Insurance upon receiving their alien registration number after arriving in Korea. The estimated cost for this insurance is around 50-60 USD per month. However, for added safety and to ensure coverage during their initial period in Korea, international students are required to submit their travel insurance plan separately. The exact issuance date of the alien registration number is uncertain, as it typically takes more than two or three months to receive it after the start of the semester. Thus, having comprehensive travel insurance that covers this period is essential for the students' safety and well-being. The proof of health insurance should include:

• Full name of the insured
• Period of coverage - must be valid during the stay
• Place of coverage - must be valid in Korea

Students will not be officially registered until proof of health insurance is uploaded on the Yonsei University application system.

LSE Notification of Travel:

All students undertaking travel as part of their studies must complete the Travel Notification Form. You will need to have confirmed your proposed departure and return date before completing the form (these can be amended later).

After you have submitted the form, it will be reviewed by LSE's Health and Safety team. Once approved, you will receive confirmation via email.

LSE Travel Insurance:

By completing the mandatory Travel Notification Form, you will automatically be covered under LSE's Travel Insurance policy.

• The insurance will cover you for losses sustained during your period of cover, including against lost, stolen, and accidentally damaged property.
• It will also cover you for medical emergencies. However, please note that this is not comprehensive medical cover.
• The insurance will not cover travel that is taken outside the scope of your exchange programme. For instance, if you choose to travel outside of California on holiday.
