Application files are reviewed by Go Global and/or faculties for admission. Once admitted, students will receive an email notification prompting them to download a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from the student application portal.

As an administrative step, students will also need to accept their admission offer in the Applicant Service Centre (ASC) by the stated deadline on their admission notification email.

After accepting the offer in the ASC, the student can proceed with creating a CWL account to access UBC’s online systems, including Workday Student (UBC’s new student information system)

UBC’s course schedule can be found here. Course registration is not finalized until after the course add/drop deadline in the third week of classes. The UBC Go Global team cannot guarantee access to specific courses, even if they are required by the home university.

The GO LSE team is not legally permitted to give you advice on obtaining a visa to enter Canada. You will be responsible for making your own arrangements and we recommend starting the process at the earliest opportunity.

International students who will study at UBC for less than 6 months will need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV, “entry visa” or “visitor visa”) or Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) in order to ENTER Canada. To find out if you require a TRV or eTA, please check this webpage or contact the nearest Canadian visa office.

A study permit is required for international students studying at UBC for more than 6 months. If students arrive too early without a study permit, their extension request for the period of authorized stay in Canada may not be approved by immigration officers. If students apply for a study permit, they do not need to apply for a TRV or eTA because it will be issued to them when their study permit application is approved.

LSE strongly advises that you do not book non-refundable flights or make binding accommodation arrangements until you have obtained your visa.

UBC Vancouver: A limited number of spots are reserved for exchange students. Due to very high demand, on-campus housing is not guaranteed, and only about 50-60% of exchange students will receive on-campus housing. Further information is available on the GO Global Housing website.

UBC Okanagan: While housing is not guaranteed, the Housing office in the Okanagan prioritises exchange applicants who apply by the deadline.

As soon as students receive their UBC ID number, they should submit a housing application online . There is a $50 non-refundable application fee.

Full year students are automatically covered by iMED ($237, subject to change) for the first three months before they can be enrolled in BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) ($75/month). MSP is the basic medical insurance provided and required by BC government. iMED ensures students have adequate medical coverage from the time they leave home (up to ten days prior to arrival if within the coverage dates) and while they are waiting to be enrolled in BC MSP. Full year and split-year students must apply for MSP as soon as they arrive in BC, Canada. More information: iMED

LSE Notification of Travel:

All students undertaking travel as part of their studies must complete the Travel Notification Form. You will need to have confirmed your proposed departure and return date before completing the form (these can be amended later).

After you have submitted the form, it will be reviewed by LSE's Health and Safety team. Once approved, you will receive confirmation via email.

LSE Travel Insurance:

By completing the mandatory Travel Notification Form, you will automatically be covered under LSE's Travel Insurance policy.

• The insurance will cover you for losses sustained during your period of cover, including against lost, stolen, and accidentally damaged property.
• It will also cover you for medical emergencies. However, please note that this is not comprehensive medical cover.
• The insurance will not cover travel that is taken outside the scope of your exchange programme. For instance, if you choose to travel outside of California on holiday.

Students will receive invitations to orientations (pre-arrival webinars and Imagine Day/International Welcome orientations) by email with detailed information and a schedule for September.

Students should attend Go Global’s orientation sessions and take part in a campus tour. UBC will share more information closer to the start of the exchange.

The recommended date of arrival is the last week of August (classes begin 8 September 2026).
