UC Chile University

GO LSE Students should take the regular workload as undergraduate students at their host institution (40 credits per semester at UC Chile).

Students can find available courses in the course catalogue. Please be mindful of the course restrictions.

The GO LSE team is not legally permitted to give you advice on obtaining a visa to enter Chile. You will be responsible for making your own arrangements and we recommend starting the process at the earliest opportunity.

Exchange students who come to Chile for less than 180 days may enter the country with a Temporary Stay permit. While those who come for a year must compulsorily apply for Temporary Residence (student subcategory). Please refer to further information on the National Immigration Service website.

LSE strongly advises that you do not book non-refundable flights or make binding accommodation arrangements until you have obtained your visa.

UC Chile does not offer university-managed accommodation, so students must arrange their own housing. The UC Study Center provides resources to support this process. Accommodation should be secured 2-3 months before arrival. Research neighbourhoods in advance based on your budget and lifestyle, and consider commuting times, which can typically range from 30-50 minutes. Santiago has a public transport network, making it easier to travel between your accommodation and the UC campus.

Exchange students must have insurance that includes medical expenses for at least USD 30,000; health and funeral repatriation services, and must cover the entire period of stay in Chile.

LSE Notification of Travel:

All students undertaking travel as part of their studies must complete the Travel Notification Form. You will need to have confirmed your proposed departure and return date before completing the form (these can be amended later).

After you have submitted the form, it will be reviewed by LSE's Health and Safety team. Once approved, you will receive confirmation via email.

LSE Travel Insurance:

By completing the mandatory Travel Notification Form, you will automatically be covered under LSE's Travel Insurance policy.

• The insurance will cover you for losses sustained during your period of cover, including against lost, stolen, and accidentally damaged property.
• It will also cover you for medical emergencies. However, please note that this is not comprehensive medical cover.
• The insurance will not cover travel that is taken outside the scope of your exchange programme. For instance, if you choose to travel outside of California on holiday.

Upon arrival at UC Chile, the international student has the support of the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs and of several groups of students willing to help in all aspects of their exchange. In addition, at the beginning of each semester, an orientation session is held to ensure that students are aware of all the details regarding course registration, the services offered by the university, and other relevant topics.
