Students should refer to the Student Registration Procedures.

The courses listed in your admission letter indicate that you are eligible for those courses only, but you are not automatically enrolled in them. All students must enrol in courses during the Course Selection Period (only available in Semester One) and/or the Add/Drop Period (available in both Semesters One and Two).

The University Number (UID) and Portal account details will be sent to students by email around 1 to 2 weeks before semester starts.

The GO LSE team is not legally permitted to give you advice on obtaining a visa to enter Hong Kong. You will be responsible for making your own arrangements and we recommend starting the process at the earliest opportunity.

All students without the right of abode or right to land in Hong Kong must apply for a student visa for educational purposes from the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD). You can visit the ImmD website for more information on the eligibility criteria for a student visa application.

Students may apply for student visa through Admissions Office's website. Depending on the student’s nationality, student’s visa application will go through two different pathways. The visa application should be started at least 10 weeks before the semester start date.

LSE strongly advises that you do not book non-refundable flights or make binding accommodation arrangements until you have obtained your visa.

Most of the rooms are double occupancy. Only St. John’s College, Ricci Hall and HKU Residential Colleges offer a very limited number of single rooms.

Some halls have compulsory meal plans while others do not. Residents of halls without compulsory meal plans can have meals on campus.

University Health Service: UHS provides free primary health care to full-time registered students. Certain medications, preventive services and other items are charged at cost. Dental service is also available at a notional charge. Please refer to medical benefits for incoming students from overseas.

Non-local students who will be spending more than 180 days in Hong Kong must present their HKID card to be eligible for subsidised services and hospitalisation in government clinics/hospitals.

LSE Notification of Travel:

All students undertaking travel as part of their studies must complete the Travel Notification Form. You will need to have confirmed your proposed departure and return date before completing the form (these can be amended later).

After you have submitted the form, it will be reviewed by LSE's Health and Safety team. Once approved, you will receive confirmation via email.

LSE Travel Insurance:

By completing the mandatory Travel Notification Form, you will automatically be covered under LSE's Travel Insurance policy.

• The insurance will cover you for losses sustained during your period of cover, including against lost, stolen, and accidentally damaged property.
• It will also cover you for medical emergencies. However, please note that this is not comprehensive medical cover.
• The insurance will not cover travel that is taken outside the scope of your exchange programme. For instance, if you choose to travel outside of California on holiday.

All students are expected to arrive in Hong Kong around 1 week before the start of the semester to complete student registration procedures. Students are advised to book their return tickets only after they have received a confirmed examination timetable, which will be released 1-2 months before the assessment period.

Orientation for Non-local students will be held on the week before the semester starts. Our Office for International Affairs and CEDARS will also arrange a series of Orientation Activities.
