Undergraduate students who participate in the International Exchange Program must register for a minimum of 12 credits or maximum of 18 credits of coursework during each semester at NYU to be considered full-time.

A list of courses currently being offered can be found on NYU’s Public Course Search on Albert. On Albert Public Course Search you can find more information about the course descriptions, instruction mode, course location, course dates and times, and more. Courses that will be offered during the next semester are usually listed on the website by November (for the following Spring semester courses) or March (for the following Fall semester courses).

After an Undergraduate student has been accepted into the exchange program, they will work with Global Programs New York City (GPNYC), who will guide them throughout the course registration process.

The GO LSE team is not legally permitted to give you advice on obtaining a visa to enter the USA. Students will be responsible for making your own arrangements and we recommend starting the process at the earliest opportunity.

Students will need to obtain a visa before arriving in the United States. Students must apply for the visa as far in advance as possible to allow maximum time for processing. Students may not be allowed to enrol for courses at NYU if they do not have the proper documentation. The NYU Office of Global Services (OGS) will assist students with any questions regarding requirements for student visas. Admitted students will be required to provide a copy of their valid passport and documentation showing financial support. Students are provided with a Certificate of Eligibility (DS-2019) and an official letter of acceptance upon receipt of their passport copy and financial documentation. Students should check with their own consulate regarding the cost of their Visa to the USA.

LSE strongly advises that you do not book non-refundable flights or make binding accommodation arrangements until you have obtained your visa.

Exchange students have the option to apply for a room in an NYU managed residence hall and live with other NYU students. Residence halls offered to exchange students vary from apartment-style with shared kitchen areas to traditional hall style, although most will be placed in apartment-style housing. Please note that housing is not guaranteed.

Students who enrol in the fall semester will have their assignments e-mailed to their NYU email address in mid-August.

A specific NYU health insurance policy is required. Exchange students are automatically enrolled and billed for the NYU Comprehensive Plan. Students can choose to downgrade to the NYU Basic Plan by completing an online form.

The 2025-2026 Student Health Insurance Brochure can be found on NYU’s Student Health and Insurance. In the brochure students can find a full summary of benefits for the Basic Plan and Comprehensive Plan.

LSE Notification of Travel:

All students undertaking travel as part of their studies must complete the Travel Notification Form. You will need to have confirmed your proposed departure and return date before completing the form (these can be amended later).

After you have submitted the form, it will be reviewed by LSE's Health and Safety team. Once approved, you will receive confirmation via email.

LSE Travel Insurance:

By completing the mandatory Travel Notification Form, you will automatically be covered under LSE's Travel Insurance policy.

• The insurance will cover you for losses sustained during your period of cover, including against lost, stolen, and accidentally damaged property.
• It will also cover you for medical emergencies. However, please note that this is not comprehensive medical cover.
• The insurance will not cover travel that is taken outside the scope of your exchange programme. For instance, if you choose to travel outside of California on holiday.

New International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation is intended for all F-1 and J-1 international students beginning their first semester in an NYU program within the United States. At International Student Orientation, students will meet other students and discuss topics like work, travel, and adjusting to life at NYU. This session will give students plenty of chances to connect with other students and review important concepts.
