Statement of Academic Purpose

As part of your application, you are required to tell us about the following:

  1. How has your academic journey prepared you for study abroad at LSE? (Max 300 words)
  2. Why you have chosen to apply to study abroad and what you hope to gain from it? Your response should discuss your motivation for undertaking a year abroad and how you believe the study abroad programme will help you achieve both your academic and personal/professional ambitions. (Max 300 words)
  3. What are the courses you would like to study at LSE and why you are interested in them? (Max 300 words)

Please ensure your responses are academically focused, and answer each question separately. Please combine into one document and include your name on each page.

Transcript

You will need to attach an up-to-date transcript covering all of your university level study to-date. If you are in your second year of university, it should show all grades obtained up to the point of submitting your application, typically three semesters.

If you have transferred to your current institution from another university/college you will need to supply a transcript of your marks from the other institution/institutions as well.

All transcripts must be in English, or be accompanied by an official translation if they are in another language.

Reference

You do not need to provide a reference. In the Education section of the application, ensure to select your home university under 'If you are applying as part of the GO LSE Exchange Programme, please select your institution from the drop down list'. This will ensure that details of a reference will not be required further along in the Reference section of the application.

Application links will be sent to your home institution. Decisions are made on a rolling basis with a deadline of 30 April 2026. Applicants are encouraged to apply early.

If you believe you might benefit from the support provided by LSE's Disability and Mental Health Service you are encouraged to contact them prior to application.
