Welcome to the Department of Social Policy, we're looking forward to welcoming you at LSE this autumn!
Welcome Week takes place from 21–25 September 2026. Your event schedule is below and key information for starting the academic year are available online and through the Student Hub app.
Undergraduate Welcome Week Schedule
Department Gifts for all new students- 10.00am-4.00pm, Programmes Support Team office, OLD 2.03
Come and pick up your Departmental gifts!
If you are unable to do so, we will let you know how you may be able to get these once term has begun.
School Welcome for New Undergraduate Students- 2.00pm-3.00pm, Peacock Theatre
Join LSE's senior leadership and Students' Union representatives for an official welcome to the School. This session will provide an introduction to the LSE community, hear from School and SU leaders, and mark the start of your student journey.

Social Policy Welcome Reception- 5.00pm-7.00pm, SCR, OLD Building
A first opportunity for all new incoming students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) to socialise over some refreshments and to introduce yourselves to one another and members of Faculty and the Programmes Support Team.

BSc Programme Induction- 1.30pm-3.00pm, PAR LG.03
This compulsory session will give you an introduction to the Department and provide you with all the key information you need as you embark on your first steps as a LSE Social Policy undergraduate. You will hear from key members of Faculty and your Programmes Support Team about a wide variety of topics, covering important questions such as ‘ What do I talk to my Academic Mentor about?’, How will I be taught?’, ‘What opportunities and events are there for Social Policy students?’'
UG Treasure Hunt- 3.00pm-4.00pm
Get to know your Mentor group by embarking on a treasure hunt in the area of London close to campus! This is a great way to explore your new campus neighbourhood, whilst working as a team to solve clues as you race against the clock… and the other teams!

Race Matters Launch Event – 12.30pm-2.00pm, Peacock Theatre
Find out what the Department is doing to break down racial barriers at LSE, decolonise the curriculum and how you can get involved in the Race Matters initiative!
BSc Social Policy Support session- 2.30pm-4.00pm, Sumeet Valrani Lecture Theatre
Your wellbeing and taking care of yourselves is important. At this session, you will hear more about the various support services and resources to bolster your mental health and wellbeing, both within the Department and more broadly at LSE. You will receive ideas and information about how to manage your wellbeing whilst you navigate your studies, and where to go if you need some help or support. You will also find out about how the Department will be supporting you to develop your academic and professional skills throughout your degree.

Social Policy Buzz Event- 4.00pm-6.00pm, Shaw Library, 6th Floor, OLD Building
Come and chat with faculty from across the Department about their careers and research, life as an academic, their experience of influencing policy and engaging with policymakers or anything else that springs to mind!

UG- Settling in at LSE- 12.00pm-1.00pm, Department of Social Policy BSc Common Room, OLD 2.19
Hopefully you are feeling more settled in now. Over the week, you'll have received a lot of information about your programme, courses, student life, and support services. If there is anything you are still unsure about, come along to the Settling in at LSE session that we are holding today. This is a chance to ask questions before teaching begins the following week. Staff from the Department will be available throughout the session, and you can drop in at any time. There is no formal agenda, presentation, or registration. Stay for five minutes or stay for the whole session. You are also welcome to come along simply to meet other students, chat, and enjoy some pizza.

Consent.Ed is a mandatory requirement for all LSE students.
You must complete both parts of the programme:
· Level 1: take the online training before you arrive on campus.
· Level 2: attend a 90-minute workshop with your department, during Welcome week.
Your Level 2 session will be added to your Student Hub calendar.
Attendance and completion of Level 1 and Level 2 will be monitored.
Consent.Ed will help you understand consent, active bystander intervention, and the support and reporting options available at LSE.
