Welcome events MSc

Department Gifts for all new students- 10.00am-4.00pm, Programmes Support Team office, OLD 2.03

All MSc students will recieve their Mentor Group details prior to Welcome, and are asked to arrange to meet their Mentor Group on Monday of Welcome if possible! Their first task as a group (apart from introducing themselves to each other!) is to come to the Social Policy Programmes Office and collect their Departmental gifts! The office opening hours are 10am – 4pm.

If for any reason you are unable to collect your gifts on the day, we will let you know how you may be able to get these once term has begun. But we would strongly encourage you to try to meet your Mentor group, and collect your gifts on Monday of Welcome!

MSc Treasure Hunt- 2.00pm-3.00pm

Get together with your Mentor Group and embark on a treasure hunt in the area of London close to campus! This is a great way to explore your new campus neighbourhood, whilst working as a team to solve clues as you race against the clock… and the other teams!

Social Policy Welcome Reception- 5.00pm-7.00pm, SCR, OLD Building

A first opportunity for all new incoming students (both undergraduate and postgraduate) to socialise over some refreshments and to introduce yourselves to one another and members of Faculty and the Programmes Support Team.

MSc ISPP Induction- 9.30am-11.00am, Auditorium, CBG

This compulsory session will give you an introduction to the MSc International Social and Public Policy and provide you with all the key information you need as you embark on your first steps as an LSE Social Policy Masters student. You will hear from key members of Faculty including your Programme Director and meet your Programmes Support Team.

MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy Induction- 11.00am-12.30pm, CBG 1.02

This compulsory session will give you an introduction to the MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy and provide you with all the key information you need as you embark on your first steps as an LSE Social Policy Masters student. You will hear from some key members of Faculty including your Programme Director and meet your Programmes Support Team.

MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice Policy Lunch- 12.30pm-1.30pm, CBG 1.04

An opportunity for MSc CCJP students to get more acquainted with each other and the CCJP Faculty leads.

MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice London Prison Workshop -1.30pm-3.30pm, CBG 1.04

This workshop brings together guests from across the charity sector and prison service. They will share valuable perspectives on the challenges they confront in improving prison conditions, preparing inmates for release, enacting policy change, and delivering justice. The workshop requires no advance knowledge, but please be ready for an interactive and collaborative session format.

MSc ISPP Education Stream Event-Afternoon Tea- 3.00pm-4.00pm, CBG 11.13

An opportunity for MSc ISPP (Education) students to find out more about the Education stream, and to get more acquainted with each other and the ISPP Education Faculty lead.

MSc Social Policy Support session- 9.00am-11.00am, Old Theatre

Your wellbeing and taking care of yourselves is important. At this session, you will hear more about the various support services and resources to bolster your mental health and wellbeing, both within the Department and more broadly at LSE. You will receive ideas and information about how to manage your wellbeing whilst you navigate your studies, and where to go if you need some help or support. You will also find out about how the Department will be supporting you to develop your academic and professional skills throughout your degree.

Race Matters Launch Event – 12.30pm-2.00pm, Peacock Theatre

Find out what the Department is doing to break down racial barriers at LSE, decolonise the curriculum and how you can get involved in the Race Matters initiative!

A chance for some guidance and tips for MSc course selection, and to ask any burning questions that have not already been answered by other sessions and in Course Selection emails and information. Please attend the session dedicated to your Programme, so that we can address specifics of your particular degree regulations!

An opportunity for MSc ISPP (Research) students to find out more about the Research stream, and to get more acquainted with each other and the ISPP Research Faculty lead.

Come and chat with faculty from across the Department about their careers and research, life as an academic, their experience of influencing policy and engaging with policymakers or anything else that springs to mind!

MSc ISPP Fudan Meeting with Fudan- 9.00am-10.00am, OLD 2.21

This compulsory meeting will allow LSE-Fudan Double Degree MSc ISPP students to meet with the Programme team at Fudan, get all the key information they need and ask any questions they may have about the Fudan part of their Double degree.

MSc- Settling in at LSE- 12.30pm-1.30pm, Department of Social Policy MSc Common Room, OLD 2.17

Hopefully you are feeling more settled in now. Over the week, you'll have received a lot of information about your programme, courses, student life, and support services. If there is anything you are still unsure about, come along to the Settling in at LSE session that we are holding today. This is a chance to ask questions before teaching begins the following week. Staff from the Department will be available throughout the session, and you can drop in at any time. There is no formal agenda, presentation, or registration. Stay for five minutes or stay for the whole session. You are also welcome to come along simply to meet other students, chat, and enjoy some pizza.
