Name: Vivien Kos
Programme and year: LSE-University of Toronto Double Degree MPA/MGA - Class of 2027

I chose to study this degree because I thought it would give me a global outlook on public policy. The first year offers me foundations in the field and the second year is an amazing opportunity to specialise.
Can you tell us about your background and why you chose to study the MPA/MGA programme at SPP?
I did my undergraduate degree at the LSE in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences and applied directly for MPA/MGA programme. I chose to study this degree because I thought it would give me a global outlook on public policy. The first year offers me foundations in the field and the second year is an amazing opportunity to specialise!
What are the highlights from Welcome and your first few weeks?
My highlight has definitely been meeting new people! The cohort is so diverse, and I’ve really enjoyed learning about different cultures both in and outside of the classroom.
What have been some of your takeaways from your studies so far? How are you hoping to apply these to your career/next steps?
The interdisciplinary nature of my studies has been very insightful and understanding how my different subjects apply across sectors and cultures.
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m really looking forward to improving my public administration foundations by diving in more depth next term and then specialising in my policy areas of interest next year at Toronto.
What are your main objectives whilst you at LSE SPP?
My main objectives are having a well-rounded public administration and policy education, both through engaging with the classes & lectures, but also outside by attending SPP and LSE public events.
What is the best thing about being a SPP student?
I think the best thing is the exposure to so many different events and interesting people. There is always something going on and you will always find events and people that align to your interests!
Who would you recommend the programme to?
Anyone with an interest in policy, politics and global affairs.
What advice would you give to anyone who is considering studying the MPA/MGA?
Don’t worry if your background doesn’t align with the first- or second-year courses. I had very limited background in economics and political science, but I feel very supported in the courses.
Do you have any advice for applicants?
Apply early and reach out to current students (like us) about any questions you may have!
