Dr Tinghua Yu is a lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Economics at Birkbeck, University of London and a Senior Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She received her PhD in Political Science  from Columbia University.

She uses formal theory and quantitative methods to study the political economy of institutions and development. Her research focuses on political selection, intrinsic motivation and authoritarian politics.
