Sarah Richmond has joined FLIA as the Institute Manager, as maternity cover for Dr Martha Geiger. Sarah has more than 15 years of experience in international higher education, serving in both academic and leadership roles. Most recently, she led the Unit for Global Learning at Stellenbosch University (South Africa), where she embedded African-led global learning outcomes across the institution and designed integration initiatives for diverse student communities, including refugee and displaced cohorts. At Stellenbosch, she was also a member of the core team of the UNESCO Chair on Intercultural Competence, where she developed peacebuilding initiatives and academic programmes grounded in intercultural African perspectives. Prior to this, she spent 13 years in Sapporo (Japan), lecturing African Studies and Media Literacy.

Sarah has consulted for several United Nations agencies, including the United Nations Development Programme and UNICEF where she co-developed anti-racism toolkits for UNDP leadership, and performed communications reviews for UNICEF offices including Canada and Bangladesh, She was a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellow on the GPPi Global Governance Futures 2035 Fellowship as a member of the media and information research team that focused on utilising strategic foresight to develop policies on global media governance.

She holds an MA in Critical Diversity Studies and a BA (Honours) in International Relations and Media Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg).
