About

Dr Peter Dunne is an Associate Professor at the University of Bristol Law School, and an Associate Member of Garden Court Chambers, London. Peter’s research centres on the intersections of law, gender and sexuality.

In 2022, Peter was awarded a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship for the project: Trans(Forming) Family Justice: Respecting Trans and Non-Binary Identities in the Family Law of England and Wales. This research involves a mixed methods analysis of the different ways in which law, in the UK and across Europe, operates and is experienced by trans and non-binary people, their families and other key stakeholders.

Peter’s research has a strong policy focus, and he regularly serves as a legal expert for institutions, such as the UK government, Scottish Government, European Commission, European Economic and Social Committee, and the Council of Europe. Peter currently serves as the Honorary Subject Sections Secretary for the Society of Legal Scholars and as an Associate Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.

At LSE, Peter’s research will engage with non-binary experiences of law in Europe and Central Asia, and with the voice of trans youth in England and Wales.
