About

Dr Kruakae Pothong is a Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Media and Communications at LSE and a consultant at the Digital Futures for Children centre (DFC). Kruakae has over seven years of experience designing and implementing research that intersects technologies, policies, and people, using a mix of qualitative, design-led, and quantitative methods, including systematic reviews of evidence. Her research portfolio centres on the examination of the impact of technologies, ranging from broadband infrastructures and online platforms to social media, digital games, education technologies (EdTech), Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) on people. Since 2020, Kruakae has been leading socio-technical research on digital technologies and children's uses of these technologies to derive policy and design recommendations to address issues of online safety, data protection, privacy, cybersecurity and children's rights in the digital environment across two key contexts of use – leisure and education. Her current research focuses on AI, EdTech and children.

Dr Pothong will be working with Professor Sonia Livingstone in the Department of Media and Communications on the Digital Futures Commission project.
