Hugh Sandeman

Hugh Sandeman is a Visiting Senior Fellow at LSE IDEAS, and from 2020 until April 2026 was Professor in Practice for the LSE IDEAS Executive Masters in International Strategy and Diplomacy. Before joining LSE IDEAS in 2017, Hugh spent 11 years working as a corporate financier and non-executive director specialising in business in India. He was previously a Managing Director of Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, focusing on utilities and telecommunications mergers and acquisitions and financings. He began his career as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch in New York in 1986, having spent a decade in journalism, including Tokyo correspondent, international business editor and New York correspondent of The Economist. Hugh was also active for a number of years in Amnesty International, and was a board member of Amnesty International UK in 2016-2019. He is an alumnus of Oxford University, Harvard University, and the London School of Economics.
