Guglielmo Valastro

About
Guglielmo Valastro’s research interests lie at the intersection of political economy, financial markets, and applied econometrics, with a focus on how political and institutional developments shape macroeconomic outcomes. He is a Pre-Doctoral Research Assistant at the LSE’s Hellenic Observatory, working under the supervision of Professor Vassilis Monastiriotis.
His current research examines the macroeconomic effects of euro adoption, exploring how accession to the eurozone affects country-level economic outcomes and the channels through which monetary integration operates. His co-authored working paper, currently under review, investigates the impact of populist governments on sovereign bond yields in European debt markets, quantifying a political risk premium using advanced counterfactual and panel methods. He is proficient in R, which he uses for data processing, statistical modelling, and causal inference.
Guglielmo is completing an MSc in Political Economy of Europe at the London School of Economics, and holds a BSc in Economics from Royal Holloway, University of London.
