About

Dr Ella Whiteley is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy. Their research interests lie primarily in ethics and political philosophy, particularly in connection to epistemology and language.

Ella specialises in the normative dimensions of attention and salience. For instance, they ask if one can mislead someone about a topic by making the wrong thing salient in language, or harm a social group by having the wrong thing about them salient in one’s attention. Ella also writes on the philosophy of work, with a focus on invisible labour.

Ella completed their PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2019. They went on to support the 'Invisible Labour Project' in Cambridge before a three-year Fellowship at the LSE's Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method. Most recently, they worked at the Sheffield Methods Institute at the University of Sheffield.
