About

Christiana Ajai-Thomas is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is currently working on her thesis which asks how (anti)-blackness is narrated and responded to by black women in London's contemporary black nightlife. She takes an autoethnographic approach to the study of black womanhood in contemporary London viewing dance floors as a site for the observation and analysis of political contestations with interactions on the local level being implicated in a global matrix of power. She is known for her blog 'drunk ethnography', an informal output of her thesis which takes readers on vividly depicted and thoroughly dissected journeys through black London's nightlife from her perspective.

Key expertise: Black studies, Black Feminism, urban social theory, cultural studies, and dance studies
