About

Carmen is Professor in Practice and the Executive Director of the TPI Global Climate Transition Centre (TPI Centre), which she joined in May 2023.

Carmen leads the Centre’s strategic direction and oversees research programmes and operations. The Centre is the academic partner of Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI), a global investor initiative, led by asset owners. The Centre offers independent, rigorous research and data on corporate, bank and sovereign entities to assess their progress in the transition to a low-carbon economy. Carmen also sits on the management committee of LSE’s Global School of Sustainability.

Background

Prior to joining the Centre in 2023, Carmen served as Head of Fixed Income at the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), where she led workstreams on ESG integration in credit risk and ratings and across sovereign, sub-sovereign, private and securitised debt. Her career sustainable economics and finance spans more than a decade, underpinned by long-standing experience in economic and market analysis research dating to 1993. She began her career at Salomon Brothers, holding subsequent roles at Citigroup, ShareAction and Morgan Stanley.

She is currently part of the UK Transition Finance Council and a member of both the Global Advisory Committee and the Technical Working Group of the PRI Collaborative Sovereign Engagement on Climate Change. She holds an Observer role with the Principles of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA).

Carmen holds a Laurea cum laude in Political Science with a major in Economics from La Sapienza University and a Ph.D. in Capital Markets and Business Finance from the University of Bergamo. During her doctoral studies, she was a Visiting Scholar at NYU Stern Business School.
