Tim Leunig appointed a Life Peer in the House of Lords

Professor Tim Leunig has been nominated to sit in the Lords as a Liberal Democrat peer.

Professor Leunig is both an economist and a historian by training, and is a Fellow of the Royal Economic Society and the Royal Historical Society. As well as having taught in the Department of Economic History at LSE for 25 years, he is also a Visiting Professor in Practice in the School of Public Policy.

Professor Leunig spent more than a decade as a senior UK civil servant, including acting as chief analyst and chief scientific adviser to the Department for Education, and as economic adviser to two Chancellors of the Exchequer. He is currently chief economist at the social innovation agency Nesta and Director of Economics at Public First consulting.

Commenting on the appointment, Professor Leunig said: "I am honoured to be able to stand up for my principles, and delighted to follow in the footsteps of so many great LSE colleagues."
