LSE alumna Dame Antonia Romeo appointed head of the Civil Service

LSE graduate Dame Antonia Romeo has been appointed as Cabinet Secretary, the UK’s most senior civil servant. Her appointment makes her the first woman to hold the post in the role's 110-year history.
Prior to this appointment, Dame Antonia held positions as Permanent Secretary of the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice and the Department for International Trade.
LSE President and Vice Chancellor Professor Larry Kramer said of the appointment: “On behalf of the LSE community I’d like to send our warmest congratulations to Dame Antonia. It’s an important moment for the country, and I wish her every success as she takes on this role."
Romeo said it was a “huge privilege” to become head of the Civil Service, adding: “The Civil Service is a great and remarkable institution, which I love. We should be known for delivery, efficiency and innovation, working to implement the government’s agenda and meet the challenges the country faces.”
Romeo graduated with an MSc in Economics from LSE in 2000.
