Dr Sarah Brierley awarded a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship

Dr Sarah Brierley from the Department of Government has been awarded a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship (FLF).
The FLF scheme provides long-term support which enables fellows to tackle ambitious programmes or multidisciplinary questions, and new or emerging research and innovation areas and partnerships.
The aim of the scheme is to develop the next wave of world-class research and innovation leaders in academia and business.
Commenting on the award, Dr Brierley said: “I am thrilled to receive this fellowship, and grateful to the UKRI panel for selecting me. My research investigates questions related to democracy and good governance. Under this fellowship, I will launch a project on the financing of politics within democracies in Sub-Saharan Africa, investigating internal and external pressures for legislative reform, and the impact of reforms on democratic institutions.”
UKRI Chief Executive, Professor Sir Ian Chapman, said: “UKRI’s Future Leaders Fellowships offer long-term support to outstanding researchers, helping them turn bold ideas into innovations that improve lives and livelihoods in the UK and beyond.
“These fellowships continue to drive excellence and accelerate the journey from discovery to public benefit. I wish them every success.”
