About me

Isabel is a Visiting Fellow at the Middle East Centre. She completed her PhD at SOAS, where she worked on the Kurdistan Women's Liberation Movement. Her thesis was a transnational analysis of patterns and processes of female mobilisation, organisation, and education in the activist, political and armed spheres of the PKK. Her work, which is currently being turned into a book, contributes to debates around gender and war, feminism and nationalism, as well as militarism and sexuality. Isabel has previously worked as a Lecturer at the University of Bern, Switzerland, and is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Centre for Gender Studies at SOAS. She also leads the project 'Art in Peace Mediation' in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
