Join the LSE Middle East Centre for an advocacy screening of the 2025 documentary film 'Khartoum', followed by a Q&A with Co-director and Writer Phil Cox and Editor & Associate Producer, Yousef Jubeh.

Filmed on location in Khartoum, Cairo and Nairobi with donated iPhones by four emerging Sudanese filmmakers in an international collaboration, this emotional and innovative film captures the stark realism of one of Africa's great cities as it is consumed by revolution and war with its resilient inhabitants determined to keep their dreams intact despite being forced to flee. The film had its world premiere at Sundance 2025 and European premiere at the Berlinale 2025, and has received several international awards and press accolades. 'Khartoum' is a production made in collaboration with the Sudan Film Factory and the filmmakers Ibrahim Snoopy, Rawia Alhag, Anas Saeed and Timeea Mohammed.  It is produced by Giovanna Stopponi from Native Voice Films and Talal Afifi from Sudan Film Factory.

Phil Cox is the co-director of Native Voice Films, an award winning indie company based in Hackney UK.  He is one of the co-directors and the writer / creator of 'Khartoum' and has worked in and out of Sudan since 2004. He has directed and produced over 30 productions for television and his cinema feature works for the last decade have premiered at Sundance, Berlinale, Cannes, Tribecca and London.

Yousef Jubeh is a Palestinian Irish editor with over a decade of experience editing in film and television, which includes work for the BBC, Al-Jazeera, ARTE, Lorton Entertainment, M&C Satchii, Burst Pictures and Native Voice Films. Some of his recent feature work includes ‘Detained under the Houthis’, ‘THE SALON’ and 'Khartoum'.
