Cyril Offord Prize

Professor Cyril Offord was LSE’s first Professor of Mathematics and was internationally recognised for his contributions to classical analysis. He was also a pioneer in the field of probabilistic analysis.

Professor Offord passed away in June 2000 at the age of 93. You can read more about his life and work in his obituary. In recognition of his legacy and contributions to the field, the Department established the Cyril Offord Prize in his memory.

The prize is awarded annually for Outstanding Performance in Mathematics on one of the following degree programmes: BSc Financial Mathematics and Statistics, BSc in Mathematics and Economics, BSc Mathematics with Economics and BSc in Mathematics, Statistics and Business.

The prize consists of £250 and a book chosen by the Department. The winner(s) of the prize are chosen by the Department's Examination Sub-Board Meeting.

We hope that this is a very positive way of remembering Professor Offord, and also of rewarding our students for excellence.
