Dr Sandra Núñez
We are delighted to share that Dr Sandra Núñez, Assistant Professor of Management, has been elected to serve a three-year term as a council member for the Section of Economic Sociology within the American Sociological Association.
The American Sociological Association is the national professional membership association for sociologists and others who are interested in sociology. ASA’s mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a science and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society.
About her appointment, Dr Núñez said: “I start my three-year tenure as an Economic Sociology council member looking to the words of Michael Burawoy as guidance: ‘To face an unequal world requires us to interpret and explain it, to be sure, but also to engage it, that is, to recognize that we are part of it and that we are partly responsible for it. In other words, inequality is not just something external to us, but also invades our own world.’ I hope that I can embody these words with my service to the Section.”
This role will allow Dr Núñez to contribute to shaping the Section’s priorities and activities, including supporting academic programming and recognising outstanding research. Through this work, she will collaborate with leading academics to advance dialogue, deepen understanding across the field, and foster an engaged and inclusive scholarly community.
