Find out how visitors from outside LSE can access the Library and collections.

Welcome 

Our Library is open to all who want to use the collections.

The access we provide varies from 4 weeks, 3 months to the full academic year — depending on your affiliation and needs.

How to apply for access to LSE Library

Select a category to find out how long we can give you access for, and what you need to provide. Once you fill out our form we will review your application and let you know.

Please be aware that it can take a week for us to respond to applications.

University academic staff and PhD students

How long can I access LSE Library for?

We can provide you with access up until the end of the academic year.

What do I need to provide to access LSE Library?

We require a copy of your current university ID or proof of status. 

Can I borrow books?

Academic staff and PhD students from UK institutions are able to borrow up to 4 Main Collection books for 15 weeks at a time.

How long can I access LSE Library for?

We can provide you with access up until the end of the academic year.

There will be restrictions to your access during the induction and exam periods.

What do I need to provide to access LSE Library?

We require a copy of your current university ID.

We can provide you with access for 4 to 12 weeks.

We require details about what you need to use in our various collections and a copy of your personal ID.

LSE Alumni

LSE alumni are very welcome to use the Library.

Use your LSE alumni card to gain access.

Visit the Alumni Centre if you don't have a current card.
