Welcome
Our Library is open to all who want to use the collections.
The access we provide depends on your status and requirements.
Collections you can access
Visitors can use most print items (excluding Course Collection books), and some electronic resources via the 1st floor visitor PCs.
How to apply for access to LSE Library
Select a category to find out how long we can give you access for, and what you need to provide. We respond to applications within 5 working days.

How long can I get access for?
We can provide you with access up until the end of the academic year.
What do I need to provide?
We require a copy of your current university ID or proof of status.
Can I borrow books?
Academic staff and PhD students from UK institutions are able to borrow up to four Main Collection books for 15 weeks at a time.
How long can I get access for?
We can provide you with access for four to 12 weeks.
What do I need to provide?
We require a copy of your current university ID.

We require confirmation of your EPQ from your school.

We require confirmation of your LSE affiliation.
LSE alumni are very welcome to use the Library.

Digital scanning service
If you are unable to visit you may benefit from our free scanning service which is aimed at researchers wishing to consult small amounts of material remotely. Digital scans of archives and special collections items can be ordered for personal use.
Each request will be considered on a case-by-case basis. We aim to produce scans, subject to condition approval and appropriate copyright restrictions, within 10 working days.
