Join the Library

From 24 September to 26 October we are restricting access to the Library during LSE's student induction period

Check whether you are eligible for access before making an application.

Due to our busy induction period for newly registered LSE staff and students we will be restricting access to the Library for some new applicants. This will primarily be taught course students from other universities.

Instructions for people not from LSE

Select from the following options to find out if you can access LSE Library at this time.

Undergraduate and Master's students

Undergraduate and Master's students from University of London and SCONUL institutions will not be able to get access to the Library 24 September to 26 October unless they have an exceptional research need.

If you do have an exceptional need you should make an application and explain this need so your access request is assessed.

Visitors to the archives and special collections

If you want to use our special collections or archives this will still be possible - just give the details of what you want to use on your application.

You should:

1. Complete our application form (tell us what you want to use so we can book your appointment).

2. We will send you an email with further instructions.

It may take up to 5 working days for us to process your application.

Academic staff and research students

Access for non-LSE academic staff, research students or LSE alumni will not be affected by these restrictions

If you would like to use our collections then you should:

1. Complete our application form.

2. We will send you an email with further instructions.

It may take up to 5 working days for us to process your application.

Instructions for LSE members and alumni

LSE Alumni

LSE alumni can continue to use the Library as normal.

Find out how to apply for an alumni card if you haven't already got one.

New LSE students

Your LSE card is your Library and School ID card and should be used to get into and out of the Library.

New students (including intercollegiate students) receive their cards from the Student Services Centre after they have registered with the School.
