If you join LSE Library you will be able to:

We are unable to offer all of our services to visitors. This is mostly due to rights restrictions on material and because we are a busy university library with limited space.

How to apply – instructions for non-LSE visitors 

University of London students and staff

University of London students and staff are eligible for access under the University of London Libraries Access Agreement.

1. Staff, PhD and part-time students may be able to borrow material. Register with SCONUL Access if you think you are eligible and you want to borrow.

2. Complete our application form.

3. We will send you an email with further instructions.

It may take up to 5 working days for us to process your application.

Other UK university students and staff

UK university students and staff should follow these steps. Ensure you complete step 1 (registering with SCONUL) before proceeding to step 2 (registering with us):

1. Register for SCONUL Access.

2. Complete our application form

Visitors to the archives and special collections

If you want to use our archives and special collections then you should:

1. Complete our application form (tell us what you want to use so we can book your appointment)

Other visitors (Under 18s/Schools etc.)

If you would like to use our collections then you should:

Instructions for LSE members 

LSE Alumni

LSE Alumni are very welcome to continue to use the Library.

New LSE students and staff

Your LSE card is your Library and School ID card. You don't need to apply to access LSE Library and you have full access to our services.

New students (including intercollegiate students) receive their cards from the Student Services Centre after they have registered with the School.
