LSE Law School is pleased to host a book launch for Empirical Legal Studies in EU Law, edited by Daniel Naurin (University of Oslo), Urška Šadl (European University Institute) and Jan Zglinski (LSE Law School), published by Cambridge University Press. The book is available open access here.

Empirical Legal Studies has arrived in EU law. The past decade has seen a wave of pathbreaking quantitative and qualitative studies, the creation of relevant thematic networks, and the launch of large-scale empirical research projects. This volume takes stock of the new movement. Part handbook, it offers scholars — experts and novices alike — an overview of the state of the art. Part manifesto, it makes the case for the need and potential of this fast-growing area of inquiry. And part critical reflection, it assesses the challenges and limitations of Empirical Legal Studies in the EU context, and its interaction with adjacent disciplines. Together, the contributions capture the significant contribution empirical legal research has made to the study of EU law, and open up a conversation about the way forward.

The launch will take the form of a roundtable discussion with contributors to the volume:

  • Dr Or Brook (University of Oxford)
  • Dr Giulia Gentile (University of Essex)
  • Dr Eun Hye Kim (University of Leeds)
  • Dr Michal Ovádek (UCL)

Chair:

  • Dr Jan Zglinski (LSE Law School)

This seminar is open to the public and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event will be followed by a drinks reception (6.30-7.30pm).
