Explore climate, geopolitics and international cooperation through an Arctic-focused policy simulation exercise

Project Arctic: a simulation of climate-induced conflict in the Arctic region is a policy simulation workshop that examines the relationship between climate change and conflict in the Arctic. Participants will represent key international stakeholders and work through a realistic crisis scenario, balancing environmental concerns, economic interests and geopolitical priorities.

The programme combines expert-led learning with interactive negotiation exercises, enabling students to apply policy concepts in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Participants will develop skills in negotiation, public speaking, analytical thinking and policymaking.

Applications are now open for Project Arctic 2026/27 and will close on 20 October.

Project Arctic is an all-day online simulation which aims to combine expert-led learning with practical exercises that mirror the complexities of real-world decision-making.

The programme begins with an introduction to the Arctic's geopolitical landscape, including the interests and priorities of key regional and international actors. Participants then take part in a dynamic simulation where they must negotiate, respond to emerging developments and work collaboratively to address complex policy challenges.

The Project Arctic simulation offers LSE students a unique opportunity to step into the role of a policymaker and experience international negotiations first hand.
Participants will:

• Examine the relationship between climate change and conflict
• Explore Arctic governance and international cooperation
• Represent key stakeholders in a realistic crisis simulation
• Develop their negotiation and diplomatic skills
• Strengthen analytical thinking and policy-writing abilities
• Collaborate with students from across the CIVICA alliance
• Build an international network of peers interested in global challenges

Selection Process

Applications are open to LSE final-year undergraduate students and Master's students.
Places are limited and applicants may be asked to explain their motivation for participating and how the programme aligns with their academic or professional interests.

Interested students should apply directly via the CIVICA website by 20 October.
