Biography
Marina Kousta is an LSE Fellow in Health Policy. Her research interests broadly include the political economy of health, poverty, and the drivers and impacts of health and socioeconomic inequalities. Her recent research has focused on the effects of social policies and welfare reforms on health and socioeconomic outcomes.
Marina completed an ESRC-funded PhD at King’s College London, where she examined the interplay between welfare reforms, food insecurity, and mental health outcomes in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic. Alongside her doctoral studies, she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant across various global health modules, worked as an ESRC-funded research assistant on welfare reform and mental health, and supervised undergraduate research projects in collaboration with Public Health Lambeth. Before her PhD, Marina worked in pharmaceutical consulting and completed internships at the Hellenic Parliament, UNESCO, and ELIAMEP.
Marina holds an MSc in International Health Policy from the LSE and a BA in Political Science from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her academic pursuits have been supported by funding from the ESRC.
