Guy Morrell is a part-time Teaching Associate in the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge.
He was formerly Head of the Real Estate Investment team within HSBC Asset Management, which invests in unlisted (direct) property funds and real estate equities globally. As the lead Manager of the HSBC Global Property Fund, he was awarded an Alpha Manager rating for performance of the Fund for the thirteenth consecutive year in February 2023 by FE fundinfo. In April 2016, Guy was awarded ‘Fund Manager of the Year’ by FE fundinfo, chosen from FE’s Alpha Managers across all asset classes. He was also co-portfolio manager of the HSBC GIF Global Real Estate Equity Fund and several indirect property investment mandates.
Guy has over 40 years’ experience in property investment. Prior to setting up the indirect property team at HSBC Global Asset Management in 2004 he worked for Henderson Global Investors (latterly as Global Property CIO), Prudential Portfolio Managers (now M&G Real Estate) and Healey & Baker (now Cushman & Wakefield).
Guy holds a PhD degree from the University of Reading, a first class honours BSc degree from Leicester Polytechnic (now De Montfort University) and is a chartered surveyor. He is a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Department of Geography and the Environment at the London School of Economics.
