Professor Tarun Ramadorai of the LSE Department of Finance has been named the recipient of the Skandia Award 2026 in recognition of his influential research on household finance, financial stability and long-term saving. He is the first winner from a UK institution since 2015.

Presented by Skandia and the Thule Foundation, the award honours internationally recognised researchers whose work advances understanding of long-term saving and its importance for individuals and society.

Tarun’s research examines how households navigate financial markets and make decisions about saving, pensions, mortgages and investments throughout their lives. His work also explores how financial products, advice and regulation shape people’s financial outcomes, with implications for household financial security and the stability of the wider financial system.

Commenting on the award, Hans Malmsten, portfolio manager at Skandia and board member of the Thule Foundation, said:

“Tarun Ramadorai is an internationally leading researcher whose work provides important insights into how people save, invest and make financial decisions throughout their lives. This is knowledge that is valuable both for society and for future savings.”

The award marks a significant recognition of Professor Ramadorai’s contributions to financial economics and the importance of understanding how financial markets serve households. His research connects individual financial decisions with broader questions about how the financial system operates, who benefits from it and how it can better support long-term financial well-being.
