Dr Malcolm Knight Joins the Department of Finance as Visiting Professor

The Department of Finance is pleased to announce that Dr Malcolm Knight will be Visiting Professor of Finance from 1 September 2008. He will be a great asset to the LSE generally and we are proud to be his host department. His main point of contact for his research activities will be the Financial Markets Group.

Since 2003, Dr Knight has been the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank for International Settlements. He has also been a prominent member of the Financial Stability Forum which has emerged as the crucial body concerned with the international coordination of financial regulation and monetary policy. He is an articulate spokesman for the BIS whose opinions about economics and business are widely solicited by the world-wide business press.

After completing his Ph.D. at LSE Malcolm Knight started out his career in academia with appointments at the University of Toronto and LSE. Later, after he joined the IMF as a staff economist, he continued to teach at Johns Hopkins, Virginia Polytechnical Institute and LSE. He has written prolifically in the area of financial and monetary policy and has been a member of the editorial board of the IMF Staff Papers.

Given his long-experience and enormous network of contacts in the world of financial regulation, we can expect that Dr Knight will be an excellent asset for LSE.
