Political economy analysis for accelerating the green transition I LSE Festival Skills
Many sustainability initiatives stall not because of a lack of solutions, but because of institutional constraints, competing incentives and complex stakeholder dynamics. Understanding these factors is critical for leaders working to advance the green transition.
In this practical skills session led by LSE faculty, participants will be introduced to a problem-driven political economy analysis framework used in policy and organisational contexts. Through applied examples, the session will demonstrate how these tools can help identify barriers, map stakeholders and develop more effective strategies for advancing sustainability initiatives.
The session reflects the practical, evidence-based approach used in LSE Executive Education programmes, equipping participants with analytical tools that can be applied to real-world sustainability challenges.
Meet your speaker
Michael Lerner is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Policy in the Department of Government. Michael studies comparative environmental politics with a broad interest in the challenges and strategies related to adopting timely policy responses to environmental change. His research focuses primarily on policy advocacy, including corporate lobbying on climate change, transnational advocacy networks, and the innovation and diffusion of environmental policy.
