Aksel Rykkvin (baritone), James Cheung (piano)

LSE’s youngest artist to date, Aksel is a Norwegian singer who rose to fame as a boy soprano singing baroque arias, and recorded two albums on Signum Records with orchestral accompaniment.

Referred to by Swedish Radio as "the world's premier boy soprano", Aksel's recordings on YouTube have received over 15 million views. Critics have noted his fine vocal tone and instinctive musicality. His career as a baritone is looking equally promising, having recently won prizes at the Kathleen Ferrier Young Singers Competition where his rendition of Schubert’s "Lied eines Schiffers an die Dioskuren" was chosen as the best individual performance of a song in the competition.

James Cheung has established himself as a much sought after song pianist and chamber musician appearing internationally with leading singers and instrumentalists including Christian Gerhaher, Ian Bostridge, Gerald Finley, Joan Rogers, Elizabeth Watts. He was recently presented the German Record Critics' Award for his playing on Christian Gerhaher's recording of the complete songs of Schumann, released by Sony. He is professor of Ensemble Piano and vocal coach at the Royal Academy of Music and teaches song interpretation at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Munich.
