How societies (mis)manage the tension between markets and democracy

Understanding Political Economy by our three of our visiting academics - our Visiting Senior Fellow Dr Bob Hancké and our Visiting Fellows Toon Van Overbeke and Dustin Voss - explores the complex interplay of capitalism, democracy and inequality. Drawing on classical and comparative traditions, it offers a framework linking interests, ideas and institutions to explain inequality, differences in welfare policy and challenges to cooperation between capitalist democracies.
In a new blog for LSE Review of Books, Ahalla Tsauro praises the book’s accessible and integrative approach whose strength lies in diagnosing, rather than proposing solutions for, political-economic tensions.
