The European Institute hosts workshop on "The Euro and Europe’s next stage"

Monday 1 December 2025

As the world shifts toward three major currency zones (the US dollar, the euro, and the Chinese yuan/renminbi), Europe faces both challenges and opportunities.

On Tuesday 18 November, we were pleased to host a workshop on “The Euro and Europe’s Next Stage”. Organised by Dr Angelo Martelli and Visiting Professor Piroska Nagy Mohacsithe workshop invited leading thinkers to come together to discuss and debate the future of the euro. Contributors included Előd Takáts (Bank for International Settlements), Luis Garicano (LSE), Reiner Martin (National Bank of Slovakia) and Atanas Pekanov (wiiw, former Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria).

Some of our MSc Political Economy of Europe in the World students were also invited and had the amazing opportunity to join the workshop and observe the discussions up-close.
