Post Pax Americana: The six pillars of Europe's new security architecture

Hosted by the European Institute
In-person and online public event (Sumeet Valrani Lecture Theatre, CBG)
Thursday 12 March 2026 6.30pm - 8pm

Join us for this event with Klaus Welle, Visiting Professor in Practice at the LSE European Institute and former Secretary General of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2022.

With the new National Security Strategy, the United States will give priority in the future to the Western Hemisphere and Asia. After 80 years Europeans will have to take primary responsibility for their continent with the US limiting themselves to a supplementary role in conventional defence. What are the six pillars that can make this transformation a success?

Meet our speaker and chair
