This site is for students attending the 2025 EC451 Introductory Course for MSc EME (pending 2025 update), a foundation course preparing you for the postgraduate courses in the LSE Department of Economics.
Students should also note that access to this site does not imply full enrolment/complete registration at LSE.
Advice before the session
Students are expected to acquire solid analytical knowledge and skill in mathematical economics, econometrics and other applied fields of economics.
The basic structure of the EME core courses is as follows:
- EC451 in September (one week for macro, one week for micro, and one week for econometrics). This course introduces background knowledge for the regular core courses starting from the end of September.
- Core courses for the whole academic year
EC417: Advanced Macroeconomics
EC487: Advanced Microeconomics
EC484: Advanced Econometrics
This website provides some background materials for EC451. Due to the nature of our program, EME students tend to have relatively heterogeneous mathematical backgrounds. The incoming EME students are expected to go over our background materials and preview some lecture materials for EC451 before joining EME (i.e. this summer).
