Whether you're sharing career insights through Ask an Alum, supporting students as a Departmental Mentor, or joining our wider Mentoring Schemes, there are plenty of ways to give back, build connections, and support the next generation of the LSE community.

Ask an Alum is LSE's innovative micro-mentoring platform, connecting students and alumni around the world for top tips, interview advice and insights.

Our AI-enabled technology automatically pairs students and fellow alumni with the best-matched alumni based on shared interests and industries. Commonly asked questions include how to impress recruiting panels, navigate career transitions and utilise academic experience in professional settings.

Alumni volunteers respond directly by email without the need for registration, enabling small yet meaningful mentorship across the global LSE community.

The advice I received was helpful, considerate and much more detailed than I expected. It provided guidance on aspects I had not thought of and brightened my day.

Share your professional experiences, insights and knowledge with students as part of one of LSE’s focused mentoring programmes.

Being a mentor, it's such a privilege because you just get to be a small part of the journey. You get to be the voice that cheers them on.

LSESU Ethnic Minority Mentoring Scheme

This scheme connects ethnic minority students with LSE alumni, providing students with valuable guidance and insight into different industries. Alumni can be based anywhere and in any industry, though LSESU would be especially keen to hear from those in finance, public sector, politics and government, law and consultancy.

LSE Careers Social Mobility Mentoring Scheme

The LSE Careers Social Mobility Mentoring scheme aims to support penultimate and final year undergraduate UK home students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds by offering them a chance to collaborate with a mentor. Mentors will play a crucial role in helping students explore career paths, build confidence, expand their professional networks, navigate job applications and more! Mentors must be based in the UK and have a genuine commitment to helping those from social mobility backgrounds.

Applications for the 2026/27 cycle will open in Autumn 2026.
