LSE Emeritus Governor David Kingsley OBE

I remember being cornered by this friendly yet persuasive man who was absolutely insistent that we should have a formal Alumni Association.

It is with great sadness that we have learned that David Kingsley OBE (BSc Econ 1953) has passed away. Our thoughts and best wishes are with David´s wife Gisela, their four children and seven grandchildren, and their friends.

David was a student at LSE from 1949 to 1953, when he served as President of the Students´ Union. He became an Emeritus Governor of LSE in 2005, after an unprecedented 40 years as a governor, having been appointed as the School´s youngest ever governor in December 1965.

As an active member of the School´s alumni community, David was founder and first chair of the LSE Alumni Association. He received his OBE for charitable work with children and young people in East London.

Bill Abraham, Director of Development and Alumni Relations at LSE, said:

It is of course very sad to hear the news of David’s passing – but I would like to highlight the tremendous impact that David has had on the School following more than 60 years of dedicated service.  When I joined LSE in 2002, I remember being cornered by this friendly yet persuasive man who was absolutely insistent that we should have a formal Alumni Association to allow our thousands of LSE alumni around the world a chance to be involved with the School.  Over the next few years David worked tirelessly to get the Alumni Association off the ground and there was no more fitting man to be the first Chair of the Alumni Association when it was finally established.
