Professor Laura Pulido, Centennial Professor at the Department of Geography and Environment has been conferred a Royal Geographical Society Honorary Fellowship 2025.
The award recognises Professor Pulido’s pioneering and influential research on environmental justice, race and ethnicity, and Latinx geographies. Through scholarship and activism, her work has explored the need for greater diversity within the field of geography, and she is an active voice in contemporary policy debates about racial inequality and structural racism.
Commenting on the award, Professor Pulido said: "I am deeply honoured that my work is being recognised in the UK. I, along with others, have spent my career pushing geography to recognise the centrality of race to social and environmental processes. Since joining LSE, my intellectual horizons have broadened geographically and I look forward to collaborating with LSE colleagues in various ways. Currently, I am part of a group in Geography and Environment developing a project on plants and empire.”
This announcement follows the news last month of Professor Pulido’s election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Since 1780, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences has honoured excellence and convened leaders from across disciplines and divides to examine new ideas, address issues of importance, and work together. The first members elected to the Academy in 1781 included Benjamin Franklin and George Washington.
